Operation Escape Osaka: Challenging Marathons in Other Prefectures

I have not been out of Osaka since visiting my friend's house in the US using United miles in June 2019.

Since then, I have left Osaka City on occasion, but I have never left Osaka Prefecture.

I've run the Osaka Yodogawa Citizen Marathon and the Osaka Marathon twice consecutively in the past, but I will pass both this time. I was put off by the suspension of public transportation due to bad weather and accidents. In particular, there are major problems with the Osaka Marathon's organization.

First, I'm targeting nearby prefectures. Places within train distance from home that don't require overnight stays. Then my morning running buddies raved about the Lake Biwa Marathon to be held next March 8th. Several have already registered, so I'll have running companions there.

Experience a beautifully flat course that hugs the stunning shores of Lake Biwa, perfect for chasing personal bests or enjoying a smooth, beginner-friendly run.

Also, I entered the lottery for the Kyoto Marathon to be held on February 15, 2026. I don't know if I'll get selected or not.

To be honest, I don't really want to go to Kyoto. It's lost all its original charm due to overtourism. But if it's for running the marathon, that's a different story.
